Rutt Class Action Settlement (Rutt v. Anthem Health Plans, Inc.)

date: 05/23/2012

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut underpaid Connecticut dentists who participated in their program, violating their provider agreements. There is a huge class of dentists who are eligible to receive payment. Dentists who are affiliated may also be eligible for payment.  Anthem agreed to pay $3.8 million for all the claims to be settled.

In addition to providing monetary damages to the dentists, they have agreed to form a working group called the Dentist Advisory Group. The group would work to improve communication and transparency between the company, dentists, and their patients on a variety of subjects including claims processing and dental care. Anthem also agreed to modify certain business practices that have been highlighted by the lawsuit. The American Dental Association lent a hand to the plaintiffs which helped craft their case against Anthem.
