Asbestos Victims Left Helpless In Some States
A blog on Lawyers.com detailed the problem many asbestos victims are facing and how they are handcuffed from pursuing damages against companies who have asbestos related subsidiaries. Some of the companies that were found to be using asbestos were sued, and companies that bought them cannot be sued over asbestos. In some states like Michigan, this idea was made into law, and it was discovered that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) was involved in lobbying to push it through.
The presence of asbestos is wide spread throughout many old buildings because of its massive use in the early and mid-20th century. The victims who work around asbestos and bring it home to their families are left to suffer with no kind of help for their problems.
The author points to possible legislation making its way through certain state legislatures that may remedy the problem. However, the use of asbestos was nationwide. To solve the problem, you need a nationwide solution.
