Sexual abuse cases are some of the toughest because the tentacle of such a case spreads throughout society. The parents, the victims, the accused family, and the institution all suffer because of a case like this.

In cases like the Vatican or Penn State, many reputations are ruined and justice is long delayed if ever meted out because of the actual abuse and the active conspiracy to keep it a secret. In the case of Horace Mann, the school is taking pro-active measures for handling sexual abuse.

It is no doubt that they saw the lessons of places like Penn State and are looking to avoid the negative effect of such a scandal including the bad press, the loss of respect, and the lawsuits.
