According to an article in the New York Post, General Electric has recalled over a million dishwashers because of a fire hazard. The company voluntarily recalled the machines because of some heating elements that could fail and start fires. General Electric reportedly received complaints about seven fires which caused major property damage.
After these reports, government officials announced people should stop using the dishwashers and cut off power to them. General Electric will be repairing the machines for free, but the people who endured property damage may have a lawsuit. A mechanical failure is not the fault of the consumer, which means the company is liable for whatever damages the machines caused.
