Event Spotlights Child Abuse

The West Jordan Journal in Utah published a story about an event in Veterans Memorial Park that documents child abuse. Child abuse has been like a dirty secret in society that exploded when the first claims against the Catholic Church were made. Since then, it has been an epidemic which affects sports, religion, education, and other areas.

It’s important for victims to know no matter how long it has been, they can always file charges and seek justice against their tormentors. Child abuse has lasting effects, one of which is unattained justice. The victims should know there are resources out there like legal funding that can help plaintiffs get the resources to pursue the justice they need.

Remembering the First Responders from September 11th

The 12thanniversary of the September 11th attacks is fast approaching. While people reflect on the tragedy that happened that day, they also remember the bravery of the first responders when they arrived at Ground Zero to help in any way they could.

However, years later when it became obvious that exposure to Ground Zero was directly responsible for debilitating health problems and even death, the government was in political gridlock in regards to providing funding to those that suffered.

The holidays were getting close and with no resolution in sight, it seemed like the Zadroga Act would not get passed. However, Jon Stewart took up the issue of the first responders on his show, pointing out the lunacy of the hold up. He even had a few of the first responders on to share their feelings to the world about what was happening in Washington D.C.

The episode caused a firestorm which prompted Congress to move quickly, passing the bill on December 22, 2010. President Obama signed it into law on January 2, 2011.
